On the eve of Russian Language Day, on 22 May 2026, the Faculty of Foreign Languages at the University of Tirana hosted an academic and cultural event entitled \u201cRussian Language and Culture \u2013 A Bridge of Communication and Cultural Identity\u201d, organised by the Russian Language \u201cLinguistics\u2013Translation\u201d Teaching and Research Group.<\/p>\n
The event brought together students and academic staff from the Department of Slavic and Balkan Languages, students from other study programmes at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, UT students studying Russian at an extracurricular level, students and teachers from the language-oriented secondary school \u201cAsim Vokshi\u201d, as well as enthusiasts of the Russian language and culture.<\/p>\n
At the heart of the event was the open lecture delivered by Prof. Assoc. Dr. Alma Pinari, through which not only the extraordinary richness of the Russian language and its profound cultural and identity dimension were highlighted, but also the importance of studying this language in today\u2019s increasingly intercultural and multilingual reality. The role of Russian as a language with significant influence in the international academic, cultural, and diplomatic sphere was emphasised, representing a bridge of communication between tradition and contemporary developments. In this context, learning Russian was presented as an opportunity to broaden students\u2019 linguistic, cultural, and professional competences, particularly in the fields of translation, international relations, cultural studies, and intercultural communication.<\/p>\n
An important moment of the event was the discussion on bilingualism as a powerful bridge in cultural interaction, a dimension best reflected by Albanian students from Albanian-Russian families. Their presence and engagement demonstrated not only the values of intercultural communication, but also the great potential this community represents for our Faculty as a space where languages, cultures, and identities coexist and enrich one another.<\/p>\n
The event continued with a didactic presentation by teachers from the language-oriented secondary school \u201cAsim Vokshi\u201d, followed by a Russian poetry competition involving pupils and students who, through their talent, dedication, and interest in the Russian language and culture, brought the spiritual and artistic richness of Russian language and culture closer to the audience.<\/p>\n
The certificates and awards distributed during the event served as motivation for the further promotion of foreign language learning in general, and of the Russian language in particular, as an inseparable part of intercultural dialogue.<\/p>\n
The enrichment of the Faculty library with new literature for Russian language programmes was welcomed enthusiastically by all participants.<\/p>\n
This event once again demonstrated the commitment of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, the University of Tirana, and the Russian Language \u201cLinguistics\u2013Translation\u201d Teaching and Research Group to the promotion of cultural dialogue, multilingualism, and the universal values fostered through language.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
