🔹 Open Lecture | Linguistics, Translation & Culture 🔹

The Linguistics teaching and research group, in collaboration with the Translation and Interpreting, as well as Communication and Culture groups, within the Department of English Language, Faculty of Foreign Languages – UT, organized on April 23, 2026 the open lecture “Linguistic and Cultural Issues in the Translation of the Historical Study Agents of Empire by Noel Malcolm”, delivered by translator and scholar Kastriot Myftiu.

The lecture provided an in-depth analysis of the linguistic aspects of the text, as well as key cultural challenges involved in translating an important work of microhistory, in which Albanian family histories are closely intertwined with some of the major events of 16th-century European history, particularly the relations between the Christian and Ottoman worlds.

The extensive archival research of Noel Malcolm, published by Oxford University Press in 2015, represents a valuable contribution to Albanian historiography and culture, as well as to European scholarship more broadly. Its masterful translation into Albanian by Kastriot Myftiu further enhances its significance.

The lecture attracted considerable interest and was followed with great curiosity by a wide audience of students and academic staff.
