BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN ITALIAN STUDIES – PROFILE: “ITALIAN LANGUAGE, LITERATURE AND CIVILIZATION”

Objectives and Educational Activities of the Study Programme

The Bachelor’s programme in “Italian Language, Literature and Civilization” is offered at the Faculty of Foreign Languages by the Department of Italian Language, and aims to prepare specialists with a very good command of written and spoken language, literature, and Italian civilization, in line with the long philological and cultural tradition of Italian studies. This study programme offers:

• advanced knowledge of the Italian language (written and spoken), literature, and Italian civilization, including critical understanding of the theories and principles in this field of study.
• advanced skills demonstrating high competence and analytical independence, required to interpret and contextualize literary texts and complex cultural phenomena.

The programme has the following objectives:

• To provide in-depth theoretical and practical training in language-focused courses.
• To provide in-depth knowledge of the language, literature, and civilization of the Italian people, from their origins to the present day.
• To develop analytical-critical skills for interpreting literary texts and cultural documents.
• To develop skills for reflection and professional development.

Competencies

The programme, with a wide range of courses planned over the 3 (three) years of study, combines diverse disciplines that ensure both general university training and specialized training in the relevant field, and also aim to:

• Provide students with a very good command of written and spoken language, literature, and Italian civilization;
• Provide students with a very good command of the second foreign language, Language C;
• Achieve a perfect command of the Albanian language (Language A);
• Develop the ability to communicate and switch from one language to another, in different contexts and fields, using the appropriate linguistic registers according to the interlocutors;
• Develop the ability to apply the acquired linguistic, philological, and literary competencies to conduct bibliographic research and to draft summaries and reports on specific study topics;
• Develop the ability to apply learning tools to update and deepen the topics studied, including in professional contexts, as well as to pursue further studies;
• Develop the ability to analyze literary texts and cultural documents within their historical, social, and aesthetic context.

Employment and Professional Qualification Opportunities

The Faculty of Foreign Languages offers further training for students in coordination with employers. This training relates to various topics and is in line with the scientific background and needs of students in the labour market. Students may take up part-time employment with companies with which the FFL has signed Cooperation Agreements. Our students can be employed in the public and private sectors, including in: educational institutions, cultural and tourism institutions, media, publishing houses, and translation agencies. Graduates of the Bachelor’s programme can be employed as:

• Teacher at foreign language centres.
• Translator or intercultural communication specialist.
• Language editor/proofreader at publishing houses and cultural institutions.
• Tour guide or communication coordinator with international clients in the tourism and hospitality field.
• Officer in foreign and public relations offices at public institutions and international organizations, embassies, consulates, and Italian cultural institutes.
• Researcher and cultural mediator.

Further Studies at the FFL-UT

The Bachelor’s degree in “Language, Literature and Italian Civilization” offers further study opportunities in the Second Cycle of Studies and/or in programmes of other cycles provided for by the applicable legal and sub-legal acts.

The Erasmus+ Scholarship Programme funded by the European Union

Our students have the opportunity to complete one or two semesters of study at partner foreign universities with which UT-FFL has signed Erasmus+ KA1 inter-institutional agreements, in: Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Austria, Portugal, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Hungary, Lithuania, Slovenia, and Romania.
