BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN “MODERN LANGUAGES AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY”

Objectives and Formative Activities of the Study Program

The Bachelor program in “Modern Languages and Digital Technology” is offered by the Faculty of Foreign Languages, through the Department of German Language and the Department of French Language. The program is conceived as an interdisciplinary and contemporary program, combining training in modern languages with knowledge and skills in the field of digital technologies. It aims to create an integrated professional and academic profile, combining components of linguistics, literature, civilization, intercultural communication, translation and digital technologies. The program is built on the academic experience and expertise of the two departments and aims to provide students with comprehensive training in the German and French languages, as well as the ability to use digital tools and technologies in communication, language-processing and translation processes.

This study program offers:

• advanced knowledge of modern languages, particularly German and French, in both their written and spoken forms, as well as knowledge of the literature, culture and civilization of German-speaking and Francophone regions;
• knowledge and skills in the field of linguistics and communication, including the analysis and use of language in various academic, professional and intercultural contexts;
• advanced analytical and critical skills, necessary for the interpretation and analysis of texts, cultural documents and intercultural communication situations;
• knowledge and skills in the use of digital technologies, including digital tools and applications used in language teaching and processing, communication, translation and content creation;
• practical skills in translation and cross-linguistic communication, as well as knowledge of the technological tools that support the translation and language-processing process;
• the ability to integrate linguistic and digital competences in solving various academic and professional tasks and problems.

Competencies

With a broad range of courses planned over the 3 (three) years of study, the program encompasses diverse disciplines that provide general university-level training specialized in the field of modern languages and digital technologies. Through the combination of linguistic, literary, cultural, communicative, translation-related and technological disciplines, the program aims to develop the following competencies:

• Equip students with strong linguistic knowledge and competences in the modern language studied, in both its written and spoken forms, as well as knowledge of the literature, culture and civilization of the relevant linguistic area;
• Develop competences in the second foreign language (Language C), enabling students to understand, use and communicate in various academic, professional and intercultural situations;
• Develop high-level competences in the Albanian language (Language A), for clear, accurate and appropriate communication in academic, professional and public contexts;
• Enable students to communicate and mediate between different languages and cultures, using appropriate linguistic strategies and registers depending on the context, purpose of communication and interlocutor;
• Develop analytical-critical and intercultural skills, through the analysis and interpretation of texts, cultural documents and various materials in the languages studied;
• Enable the application of linguistic, philological and intercultural competences to carry out bibliographic and digital research, to identify and critically evaluate sources, and to draft summaries, reports and various academic and professional materials;
• Develop skills to use digital resources, platforms and tools in the process of learning, research, communication and information processing;
• Enable the use of digital technologies and language-processing tools for communication, linguistic mediation, translation and content creation;
• Enable the use of translation tools and technologies, including computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, electronic language resources and corpora, as well as other digital applications that support the translation and language-processing process;
• Develop the ability to integrate linguistic, intercultural and digital competences in solving various tasks and problems in academic and professional contexts;
• Enable the critical and responsible use of new technologies, including artificial-intelligence-based tools, respecting the principles of ethics, academic integrity, data protection and responsible use of information;
• Enable the use of lifelong-learning instruments and strategies, in order to update and deepen linguistic, cultural and digital knowledge, and to adapt to ongoing developments in technology and labor-market requirements;
• Develop research, critical-thinking, independent-work and professional-development skills, preparing students to continue their studies in subsequent cycles and to integrate into various professional activities that require linguistic and digital competences.

Employment and Professional Qualification Opportunities

The Faculty of Foreign Languages offers further training for students in coordination with employers. This training relates to various topics and is in line with the scientific background and needs of students in the labor market. Students may be employed part-time at companies with which the FFL has signed Cooperation Agreements. Our students may be employed in the public and private sectors, including: educational institutions, cultural and tourism institutions, media, publishing houses, and translation agencies. Graduates of the Bachelor program may be employed as:

• Foreign-language teachers/instructors at language centers and various educational institutions, in accordance with the relevant legal criteria and requirements.
• Translators or interpreters (consecutive/simultaneous) at public and private institutions, organizations, companies and structures that require linguistic mediation.
• Language editors/proofreaders and content creators, at publishing houses, media outlets, cultural institutions and digital platforms.
• Tour guides or client-communication coordinators for international clients in the fields of tourism, hospitality and services, using foreign languages and digital communication tools.
• Officials or specialists in foreign and public relations, at public and private institutions, international organizations, embassies, consulates and cultural and educational institutions.
• Communication skills and digital competences.

The Bachelor’s degree in “Language, Literature and German-speaking Civilization” provides further study opportunities in the Second Cycle of Studies and/or in programs of other cycles provided for by other legal and sub-legal acts in force.

Erasmus+ Scholarship Program Funded by the European Union

Our students have the opportunity to complete one or two semesters of study at partner foreign universities with which UT-FFL has signed Erasmus+ KA1 inter-institutional agreements, in German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) and at counterpart European universities offering similar programs in linguistics, literature and translation.
