Biography

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Marsela Likaj is a senior lecturer in German language and literature at the University of Tirana. Since 1998, she has been a member of the academic staff of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, with expertise in German literature, translation studies, and intercultural communication.

She earned her PhD in German literature with a research focus on Bertolt Brecht’s epic theatre. During her Master’s studies in German literature, she explored the representation of female figures in literary works, with particular attention to Ingeborg Bachmann and Elfriede Jelinek.

Her academic contributions include numerous presentations and publications in reputable international journals and conferences. Her research has primarily focused on the representation of women in literature, intercultural communication, and pedagogical approaches to teaching literary texts in foreign language education.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Likaj has been actively involved in a wide range of academic projects and scientific committees. She has organized and chaired several national and international conferences. In addition, she is co-author of several textbooks for German language instruction and has produced an extensive body of translations.

From 2017 to 2024, she served as Head of the Department of German Language. Since 2013, she has also contributed as a translator for the Ministry of Justice.

She is a member of the Presidency of the Association of Germanists of Southeastern Europe (SOEGV). At present, she serves as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and as a member of the Academic Senate of the University of Tirana.
