📚Today, at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, University of Tirana, doctoral candidate of the Department of English Language, Mrs. Sonila Alla, successfully defended her doctoral dissertation for the academic degree of Doctor entitled “Aspects of the Contribution of the Translator and Albanologist John Hodgson to Translations from Albanian into English within the Framework of Translation Studies in Albania”, under the scientific supervision of Prof. Dr. Viktor Ristani.
📓At a time when globalization has intensified the need for intercultural communication, the study highlights the role of translation as a creative and interpretative act that enables cultural mediation while preserving the linguistic and literary authenticity of the original texts.
💡The research includes an in-depth analysis of the translations of three major literary works by Ismail Kadare: “The Three-Arched Bridge,” “ The Wrong Dinner,” and “The Traitor’s Niche”.
✍🏻The comparison between the source and target texts examines lexis, syntax, stylistic elements, and cultural references, identifying Hodgson’s translation strategies and their impact on the international perception of Albanian literature.
✍🏻The findings demonstrate that Hodgson’s translations are distinguished by their preservation of aesthetic and cultural integrity, evolving into a hermeneutic process that fosters intercultural dialogue.
The jury awarded the dissertation the highest evaluation, recommending the conferment of the academic degree of Doctor and characterizing the study as a valuable contribution to the development of translation studies in Albania, the improvement of professional practice, and the strengthening of intercultural dialogue in the era of globalization.
😊Congratulations to Ms. Sonila Alla on this well-deserved achievement, and best wishes for continued success in her academic career.
