This research group, headed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Flavia Kaba and comprising Prof. Dr. Anastasi Prodani, Dr. Serxho Rama, Dr. Viola Biti, and MSc. Andia Dani, aims to introduce innovations in the fields of linguistics and translation, as well as to improve teaching and learning for students of the Department of Spanish Language through a series of academic-scientific and cultural activities to be carried out during the period 2022–2024.
Planned Activities
- An activity with students, academic staff, and Spanish translator María Roces González, organized within the framework of International Book Day and Spanish Language Day. Following the activity prepared by the students of the department, translator María Roces González will discuss the topic “Sin traductores no hay literatura universal” (“Without translators there is no universal literature”). The activity is scheduled for 18/04/2023 as part of Spanish Literature Week.
- Participation in the “International Symposium on Hispanic Literature and Linguistics,” organized in cooperation with Istanbul University, Ankara University, and the University of Tirana, Faculty of Foreign Languages, Department of Spanish Language. The symposium will take place on 26–28 April 2023 at Istanbul University, Türkiye, with lecturers from the Department of Spanish Language participating.
- A round-table discussion with lecturers from the Department of Spanish Language, translators, representatives of Dituria Publishing House, and students, for the presentation and promotion of the novel Purgatory by Tomás Eloy Martínez, translated into Albanian by lecturer Assoc. Prof. Flavia Kaba, followed by a discussion on Spanish-Albanian and Albanian-Spanish translation issues.
- Updating the teaching plans of linguistics-related courses with the aim of developing the competencies defined by the study programme.
- An annual “Encuentro de profesores” in cooperation with the Spanish Embassy and Spanish-language teachers in pre-university education institutions, addressing linguistic issues, translation didactics, etc.
- Initiation of work on the preparation of the textbook “Text Typology of Language B (3)” for students of the Department of Spanish Language. This will constitute continuing research work based on the first textbook, “Tipología Textual Descriptiva.”
- Spanish for Specific Purposes (cultural heritage). Its application in the four modules of text typology.
- A round-table discussion with lecturers from the Department of Spanish Language, translators, representatives of Dituria Publishing House, and students, for the presentation and promotion of the novel Nobody (Asgjëkundi) by Julia Navarro, translated into Albanian by lecturer Assoc. Prof. Flavia Kaba, followed by a discussion on Spanish-Albanian and Albanian-Spanish translation issues. This round table aims to discuss Spanish language, translation, and literature in Albanian and will be organized during the cultural week of the Tirana Book Fair in November 2023.
The working group plans its activities according to the segments of the itinerary or according to thematic areas, based on the capacities and profiles of each member. Essentially, this will involve a continuous and in-depth research process.
General Objectives:
- Activation of the staff and students of the Department of Spanish Language in scientific and cultural activities.
- Collection of materials that will serve as a basis for the preparation of the textbook.
- Familiarization with and discussion of linguistic issues as well as translation-related matters.
Specific Objectives:
- To coordinate the work with the research group “Spanish Literature – Language Communication” and with the one-year translation project funded by the Faculty of Foreign Languages for 2023, thereby promoting interdisciplinary cooperation among communication, language, and translation.
- Strengthening and developing scientific research through national and international cooperation.
- Improving foreign language teaching as a component of specialized education.
