TEACHING AND RESEARCH GROUP OF ENGLISH AND AMERICAN LITERATURE

The Teaching and Research Group in English and American Literature of the Department of English Language at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, University of Tirana, focuses its work on the following objectives:
- Structuring the study and scientific research of English and American literature within the framework of the teaching and research activities of the Department of English Language at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, University of Tirana.
- Establishing meaningful cooperation, both interdepartmental and interdisciplinary, with other departments at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, as well as with other academic partner institutions involved in this field of teaching and research.
Some other long-term and specific goals of the Teaching and Research Group in English and American Literature are:
- Researching the major literary periods and movements in English and American literature: Examining the major literary periods, movements and genres, from medieval and Renaissance literature to Romanticism, Realism, Modernism and Postmodernism.
- Analysing cultural representations and social reflections in these two literatures: Literature reflects and critiques cultural, social and political issues, such as class, race, gender and identity, revealing how literary works both reflect and shape social values in different historical periods.
- Studying the evolution of literary forms and styles in these two literatures: Narrative techniques, poetic forms and stylistic innovations have evolved throughout the history of English and American literature, from early verse and prose to experimental forms in contemporary literature.
- Promoting comparative studies and transatlantic connections between English and American literature, as well as between these and European literatures: Conducting comparative analyses of English and American literature, examining shared themes, transatlantic influences, as well as the literary forms of historical and cultural exchanges that have shaped literary traditions in these two countries, as well as in other English-speaking or European countries.
- Promoting interdisciplinary and theoretical approaches: Combining insights from critical theories, such as feminist, postcolonial and psychoanalytic perspectives, with interdisciplinary fields such as history, philosophy and art, in order to deepen the understanding of literary works and their significance beyond literature itself.
- Highlighting overlooked authors and underrepresented perspectives in these two literatures: Studying lesser-known writers, particularly those from marginalised groups, in order to broaden the range of authors represented in the canons of English and American literature, as well as to examine how the works of these authors contribute unique perspectives to twentieth- and twenty-first-century literature.
