Bachelor’s Degree in Russian Language with a Profile in Translation and Interpretation

The Bachelor’s Program in Russian Language with a Specialization in “Translation and Interpretation” is offered by the Faculty of Foreign Languages, under the Department of Russian Language, and aims to prepare specialists with excellent knowledge of the written and spoken language, as well as of Russian culture, history, and literature, including translation and interpretation skills.

The Program Offers:

  • Advanced knowledge of the written and spoken language, as well as of Russian culture, history and literature, including a critical understanding of the theories and principles in this field of study.
  • Advanced skills that demonstrate a high level of competence and innovation, necessary to solve complex and unpredictable problems in this area of study.

Program Objectives:

  • To provide in-depth theoretical training in linguistically oriented courses.
  • To provide knowledge of the language, literature, and culture of Russian-speaking peoples.
  • To develop skills in the field of translation and interpretation.
  • To develop abilities for professional reflection and development.
Competencies

The program, through a wide range of courses offered over three (3) years of study, includes diverse disciplines that ensure both general academic formation and specialized training in the respective field. It aims to:

  • Equip students with excellent knowledge of the written and spoken Russian language, as well as of Russian culture, history, and literature.
  • Equip students with very good knowledge of a second foreign language (Language C).
  • Ensure mastery of the Albanian language (Language A).
  • Enable students to communicate and switch effectively between languages in different contexts and fields, using appropriate linguistic registers according to interlocutors.
  • Provide further specialization in pragmatic translation as well as in consecutive and simultaneous interpretation.
  • Develop the ability to communicate, translate, and interpret between languages in various real-world contexts.
  • Foster awareness in identifying and solving translation-related issues of semantic, grammatical, lexical, stylistic, cultural, and pragmatic nature.
  • Train students to apply their linguistic, philological, and literary competencies to conduct bibliographic research, prepare summaries, and write papers on specific academic topics.
  • Train students to apply learning tools for updating and deepening the studied subjects in professional contexts, as well as to pursue further studies.
Employment and Professional Development Opportunities

The Faculty of Foreign Languages offers additional training programs for students in coordination with employers. These trainings cover various topics aligned with the students’ scientific formation and labor market needs.

Students may be employed part-time in companies with which the Faculty has signed Cooperation Agreements. Our students may find employment in the public and private sectors, such as: educational institutions, media, publishing houses, cultural and tourism institutions, and translation agencies.

Graduates of the Bachelor program may be employed as:

  • Translators in companies or various organizations.
  • Tourist guides in museums, historical, and cultural centers.
  • Staff at tourist information points in municipalities across the country.
  • Officers in public and private institutions, in departments of foreign relations and public communication.
  • Employees in print and broadcast media.
  • Staff members of Albanian embassies abroad or foreign embassies in Albania.
  • Researchers and cultural mediators.

The Bachelor’s Degree in Russian Language with a Profile in Translation and Interpretation provides the opportunity to pursue Second Cycle (Master’s) studies and/or other programs as defined by applicable legal and sublegal acts.

Erasmus+ Scholarship Program (Funded by the European Union)

Our students have the opportunity to complete one or two study semesters at partner foreign universities with which the University of Tirana – Faculty of Foreign Languages has signed Erasmus+ KA1 inter-institutional agreements, in the following countries: Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Austria, Portugal, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Czech Republic, Latvia, Hungary, Lithuania, Slovenia, and Romania.
