The Faculty of Foreign Languages is pleased to announce the publication of two new academic works, which constitute an important contribution to linguistic and lexicographic studies:
🔹 Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eda Shehu – Monograph on Interlingual Lexico-Semantic Discrepancies
This monograph provides an in-depth analysis of lexico-semantic discrepancies between the Russian and Albanian languages, examining cases in which a single lexical unit in one language corresponds to two lexical units or to a multiword expression in the other language, and vice versa. The study focuses on the difficulties that such phenomena pose in the process of foreign language acquisition and on the interference-related issues that emerge during sentence formation.
Drawing on established theoretical literature as well as Russian–Albanian and Albanian–Russian bilingual dictionaries, the author offers a systematic examination of the relationships between single-word lexical units and multiword expressions, complemented by alphabetically organized glossaries of multiword expressions in both languages. The monograph constitutes a significant scholarly and pedagogical resource for students of Russian as a foreign language, translators and scholars of contrastive linguistics and scholars of comparative linguistics
🔹 Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irena Kapo Pata, co-authored with Academician Kristina Jorgaqi – A Dictionary of Anglicisms in Albanian
The influence of English on Albanian, particularly after the fall of communism and the country’s opening to the world, has increased significantly, leading to a substantial influx of lexical borrowings. The Dictionary of Anglicisms in Albanian is the first work of its kind, documenting both direct and adapted borrowings from English, based on clearly defined inclusion criteria. It serves as an important resource for researchers, lexicographers, and language users, reflecting the impact of English on the Albanian lexicon and providing diverse examples of borrowings -adapted or non-adapted- as well as pseudo-anglicisms.
This dictionary is of particular significance for documenting the linguistic development of Albanian and the influence of English upon it, in line with similar processes observed in many other European languages. It also elucidates the various patterns of use and orthographic representation of English loanwords in Albanian.
👏 Congratulations to the authors on this significant academic achievement and for their valuable contribution to the advancement of scientific research and university education!
