On 7 July 2026, the Faculty of Foreign Languages at the University of Tirana officially inaugurated the sixth edition of the Bulgarian Language and Culture Summer School, which will run until 12 July 2026.
This initiative is organized by the Faculty of Foreign Languages and the Department of Slavic and Balkan Languages, in cooperation with St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria, within the framework of the Erasmus+ inter-university cooperation programme and with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Tirana.
In her welcoming remarks, Dr. Miranda Bello, Lecturer of Bulgarian Language and Literature at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, highlighted the educational and cultural significance of the Summer School, presenting its history and the main components of its academic and cultural programme to the participants.
The attendees were also welcomed by Dr. Kristina Sheperi, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, who congratulated the organizers and students for their commitment to this initiative, which strengthens the bridges of academic and cultural cooperation between Bulgaria and Albania. She emphasized the Faculty’s continued support for intercultural and linguistic activities as part of the University of Tirana’s internationalization agenda.
Associate Professor Adriatik Derjaj, PhD, Head of the Department of Slavic and Balkan Languages, underlined the importance of extracurricular activities and the sustained support given to Bulgarian language and culture as an integral part of the department’s academic profile.
Associate Professor Raqi Bello, PhD, a guest lecturer from the University of Veliko Tarnovo, conveyed the greetings of the University’s Rector and shared his reflections on the significance of the Summer School. He also delivered a lecture entitled “The Alphabets of the Bulgarian Language – Their Historical and Cultural Development.”
At the conclusion of the opening ceremony, participating students received symbolic gifts from the University of Veliko Tarnovo.
