The program of the second cycle of studies “Master of Science Degree in “Language, Intercultural and Touristic Communication” is offered as an interdepartmental master’s degree by all Departments in the Faculty of Foreign Languages and aims to form a flexible professional figure, able to cope with the dynamics of intercultural relations and to offer itself as an intermediary between different social and productive realities. The orientation study plans will direct the student to obtain professional competencies that can be used by him in the field of intercultural and touristic communication, of the enterprise, of international organizations and of the promotion of the territory’s assets.
The second-cycle study program Master of Science in “Intercultural and Tourism
Communication (Trilingual)” is offered as an interdepartmental master’s program by all the
Departments within the Faculty of Foreign Languages. It aims to shape a flexible professional
profile, capable of navigating the dynamics of intercultural relations and acting as a mediator
between different social and productive realities. The indicative study plans will guide students
toward acquiring professional competencies that can be applied in the fields of intercultural and
touristic communication, business, international organizations, and the promotion of territorial
assets.
The program has the following objectives:
To equip students with a high-level command of two foreign languages and an
intermediate or advanced level in a third foreign language;
To prepare specialists with solid knowledge of cultural, historical, economic, and social
topics related to the geographical areas connected to the chosen languages, as well as
basic disciplines in the social, economic, and legal sciences. These areas of knowledge
will be developed with particular attention to issues related to the internationalization of
productive activities and exchanges;
To enable students to effectively use digital and telecommunication tools in fields that
require specific competencies.
During the course of this study program, the student will acquire the following competencies:
High-level proficiency in at least two foreign languages and intermediate or advanced
proficiency in a third foreign language;
In-depth competence in understanding the “Other” (the potential tourist) and various
foreign cultures;
Advanced competence in theories and practices of intercultural and touristic
communication, as well as in effective negotiation using one or more of these
languages/cultures;
High-level competence in acquiring knowledge and best practices in cultural, historical,
economic, literary, and social topics related to the geographical areas of the selected
languages;
Advanced and thorough knowledge of core disciplines in the social, economic, and legal
sciences;
In-depth competence in designing and producing tourism products using language
applied in tourism, as well as strategies and techniques acquired during coursework;
Advanced skills in the use of IT and telecommunication tools in fields requiring specific
competencies;
Excellent communication skills in the role of cultural mediator when interacting with
individuals or groups of different and diverse backgrounds;
In-depth competence in understanding and applying research methodology in the field of
intercultural and touristic communication;
Advanced competence in developing scientific research techniques, as well as in
collecting and processing the necessary information in the field of intercultural and
touristic communication.
The professional practice/internship constitutes an important element in the curriculum of the
Master of Science program in “Intercultural and Tourism Communication(Trilingual).” The
internship is designed to enable the application of the knowledge acquired in theoretical courses
within a practical and professional context. To fulfill the intended objectives of the study
program, students are required to undertake internships in one or more local or international
institutions/organizations/companies.
The numerous Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) signed by the Faculty of Foreign
Languages (FFL) with public and private institutions (such as museums, travel agencies,
enterprises, and various companies focused on communication) ensure that students are able to
put into practice the theoretical knowledge gained during their studies. During the internship,
students activate and integrate their theoretical and practical knowledge so that the experience in
the host institutions becomes a valuable opportunity—potentially serving as a starting point for a
successful career and future employment.
At the end of the first academic year, the Faculty of Foreign Languages organizes a Summer
School for the students enrolled in this program. During this period, students attend lectures
delivered by leading local experts and are mentored by faculty professors in both public and
private institutions. The organization of this Summer School—aimed at adaptation to labor
market specifics, familiarization with the local context and key stakeholders in the
communication chain, as well as exposure to the field in which their future profession will be
practiced—adds significant value to this study program.
Students with this educational background are offered employment opportunities in a wide range
of fields, such as:
Intercultural mediator in institutions engaged in the field of cultural relations between
countries and peoples;
Operator and coordinator of international relations in public administration;
Operator and coordinator of international and public relations in volunteer organizations;
Operator and coordinator of international and public relations in local entities such as
Info Points of Ministries or Municipalities;
Operator and coordinator of international and public relations in international bodies and
organizations;
Operator and coordinator of international relations in foreign and domestic associations,
etc.;
Tourist guide or cultural guide/interpreter accompanying tourist groups within and
outside the country;
Guide at museums, historical and cultural centers;
Manager of a tourism enterprise or travel agency;
Employee in various print and electronic media, especially covering cultural, historical,
and interlinguistic fields.
