Research group in the field of linguistics, translation and communication was created based on the UT statute and consists of lecturers from the specialized department in the aforementioned profiles. In the framework of various projects and needs for scientific research, external   members (from universities within the country and abroad) may also be involved.

The creation of teaching-research groups aims to strengthen and develop scientific research through projects, collaborations in accordance with the development policy of the department, the main unit and the university.

The purpose, research strategy and research areas of this research group:

In order to implement a two-year work plan 2022-2024, we foresee:

  • Meeting of the working group to define the main axes of research by analyzing the research needs at the departmental level. Interdisciplinary axes (between fields within the department as well as outside it) are preferred.
  • Identification of financial resources that enable us to realize projects ( Francophone University Agency , READ, collaborations for joint study programs or that are intended to be realized, contacts with other partners, etc.)
  • Ideas and proposals to apply to different calls will be realized in group work depending on the specifics of the calls and research areas).
  • Various collaborations at national and international level.

Members of this teaching-research group are also part of several projects that are being implemented by French Language Department

The first project won within the UT program: Research, Excellence, Innovation,  the purpose of which was to create a joint Diploma with Sorbonne Paris North University.

Within the framework of project applications, which are financed by the budget for scientific research at FFL-UT, two interdisciplinary projects (linguistics / didactics / communication and linguistics / translation).                                                                                                                                              

Project No. 1: The importance of the Semantic WEB in the construction of corpora and translation of specialty texts.

  • The general objective of the project is the construction of a “Semantic Web” platform, which will enable the creation of databases that will be used for various research purposes, in our specific case for semantic, syntactic and terminological analysis in the function of translation.
  • The specific objectives of the project are closely related to: Argumentation of the use of a new methodology in the research field: those based on natural language processing of the material for the purpose of its analysis. (for example: the creation of databases of European Union laws or literature, as well as in other fields, to  help in  various analyses, translations, etc.)
  • Digital dimension will re-conceptualize teaching methods and enable access to many tools, resources and applications;
  • Strengthening teaching of foreign languages as a language in specialized training;
  • Increasing cooperation  within FFL by creating and developing parallel studies in more than   one foreign language.

Beneficiaries:

  • At the university level: lecturers, scientific researchers, mainly students of the second and third cycle of study.
  • At the national level: institutions that  will engage students in the digitization of their activities; making available platforms, software and products that will be   created and realized in collaboration with partner universities, with the support of EU funds,  certainly after applying  to absorb them.

Expected Results:

  • Corpus and metadata which will be treated by different algorithms according to different goals and specifications;
  • Strengthening the cooperation between doctoral students and lecturers as well as the use of knowledge in the function of the general objective.
  • Publication of joint studies and participation in conferences.

The product/products of the project

Presentation of the platform as well as publications in scientific journals of the achieved results.

The work plan includes the methodology and techniques that are proposed to be used.

Project No. 2: Integration of digital tools in the Flipped Classroom Approach.

Objectives:

This project, in addition to being involved in the field of didactics, is also related to the field of communication and in this field it aims to:

  • Highlight the types of digital tools that are used during teaching at FFL.
  • Offer the improvement of digital and communication skills to both pedagogical staff and students;

Anticipated activities

  • survey of FFL lecturers and students regarding the use of digital tools and flipped classroom concepts;
  • scientific seminar on flipped pedagogy;
  • trainings of the two target groups (lectures  and students of FFL) to improve their knowledge and skills in using  digital tools and  concepts of flipped classroom pedagogy;
  • An online module in the version of a mini-x MOOC (A Massive Open Online Course) which will be available to interested parties as well as the training center at the FFL.

  • The pedagogical staff  of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and
  • Students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages

Expected results in terms of communication:

  • The efficient integration of digital tools in flipped classrooms by lecturers.
  • MOOC for flipped classroom pedagogy.
  • Scientific article and/or presentation in national or international conferences.
  • Taking into account the need for interdisciplinary curricula, which includes the field of translation and Natural Language Processing and Computational Linguistics of written Documents within the Jean Monnet project calls, members of the Linguistics and Translation group applied with a Jean Monnet Chair project whose goal is to develop and strengthen interdisciplinary modules in the areas dealt in the acquis communautaire in  translation and terminology field.. The project is conceived in two approaches: teaching and research (workshops, conferences, etc.).
