The Teaching and Research Group “Greek Linguistics – Translation” focuses on reviewing course programmes for the new academic year, updating them in accordance with current requirements, and ensuring their delivery by qualified internal and external academic staff. These remain among the long-term priorities of the group’s work.
To achieve the objectives related to these research areas, the group has developed the project:
“Strategies for Learning Greek Vocabulary in Upper Secondary Education in Albanian-Greek Bilingual Schools”
Research Areas:
- Strategies for learning Greek vocabulary
- Identification, analysis, and comparison of vocabulary learning strategies used by students in Albanian-Greek bilingual schools in Albania
- Assessment of the relationship between the use of learning strategies and the time devoted to learning Greek, as well as the amount of vocabulary acquired, etc.
Target Groups: students from an Albanian-Greek bilingual school, as well as students in higher and secondary education in Tirana.
Activities Planned for the Implementation of the Project:
- Collection, processing, and analysis of forms/questionnaires and presentation of the results within the framework of the Department of Greek Language project, “Strategies for Learning Greek Vocabulary in Upper Secondary Education in Albanian-Greek Bilingual Schools”
- An assessment report on the current situation and an evaluation of students’ achievement of language proficiency levels in higher and secondary education in Tirana, according to age groups
- Workshop/training session: “Methods of Teaching and Learning Greek Vocabulary”
- Round-table discussion with experts from educational directorates, as well as teachers and school administrators from Albanian-Greek upper secondary bilingual schools in Tirana and across the Republic of Albania, within the framework of the Department of Greek Language project, “Strategies for Learning Greek Vocabulary in Upper Secondary Education in Albanian-Greek Bilingual Schools,” selected for funding by the Faculty of Foreign Languages
- Publication of abstracts and training papers
- Publication of the manual “A Guide in Albanian and Bilingual Format” for upper secondary education teachers working in bilingual schools
Other Activities of the Group:
- Scientific activity: “World Greek Language Day” (February 2023)
- Activity organized by the Department of Greek Language, with the participation of invited lecturers from several universities in Greece
- Co-organization of the Scientific Activity to be held at Logos University College
- International Scientific Conference in cooperation with Ionian University of Corfu. The main theme will be “Translation of the Greek Language,” also within the framework of the new bilingual study programme (May 2023)
- Summer School: “Greek Language, History and Civilization” (September 2023)
- Student Conference: “Issues, Challenges and Innovations in Learning in the Context of Globalization” (December 2023)
- Scientific activity: “World Greek Language Day” (February 2024)
- Job Fair, organized with the participation of various Greek companies operating in Albania, in cooperation with the Embassy of Greece in Tirana and the Greek Chamber of Commerce in Tirana: “One More Employment Opportunity for Our Students.”
