BRIEFING OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE ON THE MEETING WITH PROF. DR. DIANA KRISTO, A FORMER LECTURER OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLSIH LANGUAGE, UNIVERSITY OF TIRANA, TRANSLATOR, INTERPRETER AT THE US DEPARTMENT OF STATE AND VARIOUS INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS AND BODIES

In the framework of the events organized by the Department of English Language, Faculty of Foreign Languages, the students of the two cycles of study and the lecturers of the Department of English Language as well as other departments of the Faculty of Foreign Languages were pleased to be part of a meeting with Prof. Dr. Diana Kristo, a former lecturer of the Department of English Language, US Department of State translator and interpreter and various international organizations and institutions held at Europa room, (Faculty of Foreign Languages), Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at 15.00 hours.

In her presentation, she made an overview of her experience while working for the US Department of State Language Service, different levels of interpreters, the main criteria interpreters should meet in order to be interpreters for the US Department, the Interpreting Aptitude Test, the interview etc., the code of conduct for interpreters, principle of collegiality, various domains where interpreters work like: public services, insurances, health care, migration etc., challenges faced in the profession, personal experiences while working for the US Presidents and Vice Presidents and the Albanian-American community and various tips for the would-be-interpreters.

The meeting was interactive and through the discussion sharing, the attendees were informed about a series of issues in interpreting in US and the role of the interpreter in the modern world.

The students and the lecturers present in the meeting showed great interest on her experience while escorting and interpreting for a unique figure for the Albanians worldwide, Mother Teresa during her visit in Albania in 1989.
